Thunder Qualify for Spring AQ

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- At the final MIAA Jamboree of the season, the Trine University men's golf team shot a 317 to finish fourth, good enough to qualify them for the four-team, 54-hole MIAA Spring NCAA Automatic Qualifier Tournament. The Thunder finished the fall season third in the conference standings with a combined score of 2461. Hope earned the MIAA title with an eight-round score of 2435 while Calvin was second with a 2456.

 

After the round, Trine senior Graham Bennett (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) was named to the All-MIAA First Team after finishing the fall fifth in the individual standings. Fellow senior Nolan Eli (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa) earned second team honors finishing 12th in the league. Both had earned second team honors last year.

 

The final round was hosted by Calvin at the par-72, 6,739 yard Watermark Country Club. Hope edged out the field with a 313 while Alma's Chris Williamson took the individual medalist honors with a 74.

 

For the Thunder, Bennett led the way with a 76 on the day to finish in a tie for third. Eli went on to card a 77 to finish in a tie for sixth in the field. Sophomore Connor Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) finished the afternoon tied for 16th shooting an 80 for the round. Sophomores Bryce Moore (Richmond, Ind./Richmond) and Cody Knapp (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) rounded out the scoring for the Thunder as they tied for 31st with rounds of 84.

 

Playing as an individual was senior Max Gordon (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park) who finished his day tied for 39th after shooting an 87 in the final event of the fall.
