GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.-- Paced by Connor Dwyer's first-place finish, the Trine men's golf team placed second in the first round of the MIAA National Qualifier, held Saturday at Watermark Country Club.
Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich,/Coldwater) fired an even-par 72 to take home individual medalist honors in the event. The round tied Dwyer's lowest-round score of the season. Overall, Trine golfers totaled a score of 313. The first round of the National Qualifier is part of a three-round tournament played throughout the spring season. The winner receives an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. Hope is in the team lead after round one after totaling a score of 305.
Graham Bennett (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) shot a 77 to finish in a tie for fifth. Brandon Snell (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) and Nolan Eli (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa) each finished with 82's to round out the top four golfers for Trine. The top four golfers for each team contributed towards the team score.
Trine will compete in the Defiance Invitational tomorrow at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance, Ohio.
