WEST OLIVE, MICH.-- The Trine men's golf team placed second in the MIAA National Qualifier, which concluded Saturday at Wuskowhon Golf Club.
Thunder golfers combined for a score of 316 on the final day of the tournament to bring Trine's three-round score to 934. That score put the Thunder 15 strokes back of tournament champion Hope, putting TU in second-place. The Flying Dutchmen earned the league's automatic-qualifying bid the NCAA Division III National Championships.
Connor Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) shot a 74 in the final round to lead the Thunder. He totaled a score of 221 over the course of the tournament, finishing five-over par. That score was best among Trine golfers. He finished as the individual medalist in the first round.
Graham Bennett (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) totaled a score of 78 in the final round. Bennett averaged a score of 77 over the course of three rounds.
Brandon Snell (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) carded an 81, while Nolan Eli (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa) shot an 83 to round out Trine's top four on the final day of competition.
The Thunder will compete in Kalamazoo College's Steve Tyler Invitational this Monday, Apr. 21.
