Thunder Place Second in Bill Gettig Invitational

ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine men's golf team hosted the Bill Gettig Invitational Saturday, with the top Thunder group placing second in the event held at Fred Zollner Golf Course.

The top Thunder group was made up of seniors Graham Bennett (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek), Nick Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble), Nolan Eli (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa), Patrick Halleck (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) and Ben Gavin (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw). The top four scores in the group produced a score of 301, 17-over par. Eli and Ihrie led the way, each firing a 73 (+2) to finish tied for fifth overall. Siena Heights won the team trophy, finishing nine-over par with a score of 293. Siena Heights's Tim Combs and Adrian's Jordan Juday tied a top the individual leaderboard, each with an even-71.

Bennett finished just behind Ihrie and Clark, shooting a 74 to finish in a tie for seventh. Bennett, Eli and Ihrie all finished with scores lower than their season averages. Halleck rounded out Trine's top four in the senior group with an 81.

Cody Knapp (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) led a group of Trine golfers that finished fifth with a score of 314. Knapp shot a five-over 77 to lead the way. Connor Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) and Corey Bremigan (Russia, Ohio/Russia) each finished just behind with 78's. Kevin Berry rounded out the top four of that group.

Shawn Reiner (Waterford, Mich./Mott) led a third Thunder group that placed sixth. Reiner tied for seventh overall with a 74.
