Men's Golf Season Preview

ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine men's golf team will open their season this weekend at the Olivet College Invitational, with the first round set to tee off tomorrow.

The Thunder men have finished in the top half of the MIAA standings every year since joining the conference in 2004 and will look to continue that success this season. Last year's squad finished third in the fall to advance to the MIAA National Qualifier, but the team fell just short of an automatic-bid to the National Championship.Trine will need a quality group of returners to step up their performance to replace departed All-MIAA performers Graham Bennett and Nolan Eli, who have graduated.

Corey Bremigan (Russia, Ohio/Russia), Cody Knapp (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) and Connor Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) each showed promise in their sophomore campaigns. Knapp led all Thunder golfers with an average score just under 75. Dwyer carded the best score in the first round of the National Qualifier and had the second-lowest average score on the team last season, while Bremigan had the fifth-best average among Thunder golfers.

Michael Reynolds (Wolcottville, Ohio/Prairie Heights), Kevin Berry (Holly, Mich./Fenton) and Brandon Snell (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) also showed promise last season and will look to contribute low scores on the links this fall.

With a total of 33 golfers on the roster this season, competition for tournament spots will be tough. Included on the roster are 11 freshman.
