Men's Golf Earns Team Academic Distinction

NORMAN, OKLA.-- The Trine men's distinction was named a recipient of a 2014 Team Academic Award by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. A total of 143 teams across all NCAA Divisions and NAIA submitted GPAs of 3.00 or higher to earn All-Academic Team recognition. The Thunder were one of 23 NCAA Division III schools recognized. The award was for academic performance during the 2013-14 school year.

The Thunder had three team-members earn recognition on the MIAA Honor Roll during the 2013-14 academic year- Kevin Berry (Holly, Mich./Fenton), Connor Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) and Grant Klopfenstein (Howell, Mich./Hartland). Each student-athlete was recognized for having a 3.50 GPA or better.

Trine is currently in the midst of their fall schedule. The Thunder sit in second-place in the MIAA standings, 10-strokes behind Hope. MIAA play concludes this Tuesday, Oct. 7 with the MIAA Jamboree at Olivet.

With a top-four finish, Trine would secure a berth in the MIAA National Qualifier in the spring. The winner of the National Qualifier earns an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The GCAA All-Academic Teams are sponsored by Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, a leading U.S. insurer group of automobiles, homes and small businesses.
