Thunder Men's Golfers Honored as All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla.-- Three members of the Trine men's golf team have received recognition as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars.

Corey Bremigan (Russia, Ohio/Russia), Connor Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) and Brandon Snell (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) were recognized for their combined excellence on the links and in the classroom by the Golf Coaches Association of America. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 79.0 and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.

Bremigan added the honor to a Trine playing resume that also included an All-MIAA Second Team selection this past fall. Bremigan's junior campaign featured medalist performances in the MIAA Jamborees hosted by Kalamazoo and Alma. His scores improved from his sophomore campaign by an average of 1.76 strokes per round.

Dwyer also represented the Thunder as an All-MIAA Second Team performer in 2014. Among the highlight's of Dwyer's junior season was a medalist performance in the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian. He carded the team's best overall average (75.37), which was a 1.4-stroke improvement from his sophomore season.

Snell wrapped up his Trine playing career with high honors, receiving 2014 MIAA Sportsmanship Award. The senior made huge improvements on the links in his final season, cutting his average score by over three strokes per round (76.0). He concluded his career having helped the Thunder to two second-place finishes in the MIAA spring qualifier.

The trio of golfers helped lead Trine to a second-place finish in the MIAA last fall. The Thunder competed for the chance at an automatic-qualifying bid to the National Championships in the spring, but finished 13 strokes shy of earning the bid.

Bremigan and Dwyer will return to help lead Trine on the links this fall. The season opens Sept. 3 with the Ken Venturi Invitational on the home links of Zollner Golf Course.
