Men's Golf Team Earns Team Academic Award

NORMAN, Okla.-- The Trine men's golf team has earned recognition as the recipient of the 2015 Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Team Academic Award.

The Thunder received President's Special Recognition status for being one of just 24 teams in the nation to submit a team GPA of 3.5 or higher. The team was one of eight NCAA Division III institutions represented among the group that epitomize the top academic-performing men's golf teams at the college level. Trine is one of 169 teams across all NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA divisions to earn the Team Academic distinction.

To be eligible for GCAA Team Academic Award honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. The team's cumulative GPA must exceed 3.00 to earn the honor.

The Thunder featured three golfers who earned Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors. Corey Bremigan (Russia, Ohio/Russia), Connor Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) and Brandon Snell (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) earned the distinction for competing in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participating in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, having a stroke-average under 79.0 and maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.

This is the second-consecutive season the team has earned the Team Academic Award. Last season, the Thunder men placed three on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

Trine placed second in the MIAA last fall and placed second in the MIAA National Qualifier in the spring. The Thunder open the 2015-16 season Sept. 3 with the Ken Venturi Invitational on the home links of Zollner Golf Course.
