Men's Golf Places Second at Ken Venturi Invitational

ANGOLA, Ind.—The Trine men's golf team placed second at the Ken Venturi Invitational on Saturday afternoon at its own Zollner Golf Course.

The day's format varied from normal invitational play. Each school had three pairs that turned in a score. Holes one to six were played as a scramble, holes seven to 12 better ball and holes 13 to 18 alternate shot.

Hope College's Josh Gibson and Noah Weigle paired up to win the scramble portion with a score of 19. IU Northwest's Mike Lee and Noah Kunstek won better ball at 22. Hope's Winton Munch and Daniel Settercerri won alternate shot with 21. Kalamazoo's Dave Smith and Travis Veenhuis  had the best overall score with 63.

Hope College claimed the top spot with a score of 199. Trine finished three shots behind at 202. Trine's second team placed in a tie for fifth.

Freshmen Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity) and Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman) paired up to turn in Trine's best score. The pair shot a 65. Grant Brettnacher (Brookton, Ind./Harrison) and Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) totaled 68, and Grant McKay (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) and Alec Simpson (Calgary, Alberta) shot 69.

Trine's second team included Jordan Davidhizar (Millersburg, Ind./Fairfield) and Grant Konkle (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) shooting 69. Dillon Kreutzer (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and Robert O'Rourke (Bronson, Mich./Bronson) shot 73. Austin Miller (Kokomo, Ind./Northwestern) and Brady Elliott (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) shot 73.

The Thunder will compete in the MIAA Championship next weekend at the Battle Creek Country Club.
