Thunder Men Place Eighth in St. Francis Invitational

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Trine men's golf team placed eighth in the St. Francis Invitational, which concluded with round two play Saturday.

The Thunder finished with a score of 651 (+75). Trine shot a 333 in round one at Autumn Ridge Golf Course and concluded with a 318 in round two at Cherry Hill Golf Course. The Thunder were one of just two NCAA Division III teams in a field otherwise made up of NAIA competitors.

Grant Brettnacher (Brookton, Ind. / Harrison) led the Thunder with an overall score of 154 (+10). His performance included a three-over 75 in round two. The freshman was the highest finishing Division III competitor in the tournament. He tied for 15th overall.

Grant McKay (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado) finished one stroke behind with a 155 to tie for 17th. McKay matched Brettnacher's 75 in round two. Rounding out Trine's top four was Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich. / Bridgman) with a 168 and Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio / Trinity) with a 174. Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich. / Owosso) rounded out Thunder golfers competing in the event.

Madonna University won the team title with a score of 590 (+14). Madonna's Michael Gaulin won medalist honors with a score of 141 (-3).

Trine competes in Kalamazoo College's Steven L. Tyler Intercollegiate Monday, Apr. 10 at Moors Golf Club in Portage, Mich.
