Ruge Shines in A.C. Eddy Invitational

ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University men's golf team came away with a first-place finish as they hosted the A.C. Eddy Invitational behind the spectacular performance of freshman Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater). Ruge finished the event with a six under par 65 tying a team record on Zollner Golf Course.

Trine finished the event with a team score of 288 to finish first in the event.

Ruge led the way for the team and individually in the tournament with his record round. Turning in the second best score for the Thunder was sophomore Grant McKay (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado) who finished tied for fifth with 72 strokes. Sophomore Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich.) came away with a score of 74 and sophomore Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich. / Bridgman) rounded out the score for the Thunder with a 77.

The Thunder's second team in the event finished in sixth place with a 308. Sophomore Austin Miller (Kokomo, Ind. / Northwestern) led the way for the Thunder with a 72, good enough to finish tied for fifth as an individual. Freshman Carlos Coeto (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) came away with 75 strokes. Freshman Nick Jasiak (Schoolcraft, Mich. / Schoolcraft) with 80 and sophomore Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio / Trinity) with 81 rounded out the scorecard.

Trine will continue their spring schedule by returning to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. They will compete in the first MIAA National Qualifier on Saturday, April 21. The event is played at Wuskowhan Players Club in West Olive, Mich. and is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
