WEST OLIVE, MICH. -- The Trine University men's golf team participated in the first of three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) National Qualifiers and came away with a third-place finish.
Trine finished the event with a team score of 298 strokes. Host Hope College finished in first with 284 strokes and Calvin College finished in second with 285.
Sophomore Grant McKay (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado) led the way for the Thunder finishing tied for second as an individual with 70 strokes in the round. Freshman Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater) came in just one stroke behind McKay with a 71. Sophomores Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich. / Bridgman) with 78 strokes and Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich. / Owosso) with 80 strokes rounded out the scorecard for the Thunder.
Trine will continue their season on Monday, April 23 when they travel to the Steve Tyler Invitational. The event begins at 1:00 p.m. and his hosted by the Moors Country Club in Portage, Mich.
