Men's and Women's Golf Both Take Second at Steven Tyler Invitational

PORTAGE, MICH. -- The Trine University golf teams each came away with a second place finish at the Steven Tyler Invitational hosted by The Moors Golf Club.

The men's team finished the day with a team score of 296, while Hope College won the event with a score of 289. On the women's side, the Thunder finished with a team score of 359, while Cleary University came in first with a score of 351.

Sophomore Grant McKay (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado) led the way for the men, with 69 strokes on the day, good enough to finish second as an individual. Freshman Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater) came in with a 74 and tied for fifth in their event. Sophomores Grant Brettnacher(Brookton, Ind. / Harrison) with 76 strokes and Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich. / Owosso) with 77 strokes rounded out the scorecard for the Thunder.

For the women, sophomore Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion) came in on top of the scorecard with an 85, which was also enough to finish fourth in the tournament as an individual. Freshman Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie) finished second on the team with 90 strokes, while sophomore Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind. / Angola) came in third with 91 strokes. Seniors Natalie Woodley and Jordan Stevens both finished with 93 strokes to round out the scoring for the Thunder.

The women will close out their season this Saturday, April 28 when they host the Trine Invitational at the Zollner Golf Course.

The men's team continue their season by returning to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) National Qualifier by traveling to the Watermark Country Club in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Friday and Saturday, April 27 and April 28.
