Men's Golf Earns GCAA Team Academic Award

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University men's golf team earned recognition by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for their combined individual efforts in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year with selection to the All-Academic Team.

Trine was one of 34 schools in NCAA Division III to receive the award by maintaining a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.  The men's golf team posted an overall team GPA of 3.45 this past year.  Trine has received the award a total of six times since 2011 which now includes a streak of five straight years (2014-18).

The Thunder were one of two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schools to be named Team All-Academic with Kalamazoo also earning the honor.  Kalamazoo also made the list of schools that received the President's Special Recognition which is given to teams with a GPA above 3.5.

Trine finished third in the MIAA standings last season and averaged 303.2 strokes per round in five conference .  Individually, current junior Grant McKay garnered second-team All-MIAA honors after finishing seventh overall in the MIAA Championship standings with a 74.2 stroke average in five league events.  He also went on to earn All-Great Lakes Region honors by the GCAA.

Trine will open the 2018-19 fall season beginning with the two-day Olivet Invitational on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek, Mich.  The first round is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
