Men's Golf Wins Alma Invitational

ALMA, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's golf team placed five players in the top-10, including the co-medalist, as the Thunder claimed the team championship at the Alma (Mich.) College Invitational held at Pine River Country Club in Alma, Mich.

As a team, Trine posted an overall score of 296 strokes to take top honors and finished 18 strokes ahead of Aquinas (Mich.) College in second place with 314 strokes.  Albion (Mich.) College rounded out the top three schools with 315 strokes.

Sophomore Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) led the team individually with an 18-hole score of 73 strokes to finish one-over par and tied Nicholas Hoffman of Olivet (Mich.) College for medalist honors.

Junior Grant Brettnacher (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) and sophomore Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) both finished a stroke back with rounds of 74 strokes each.  Junior Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman) was fourth on the team, and sixth overall, with a round of 75 strokes.

Junior Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity) completed the list of team eligible scores at 80 strokes and placed just outside the top-10 in a tie for 12th overall.

In addition, Trine had two players compete as individuals that included junior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) who finished in a tie for seventh in the field with a score of 78 strokes.  Freshman Jacob Black (Defiance, Ohio/Trinity) rounded out the Thunder competitors and carded a round of 81 strokes to place in a tie for 17th.

Trine will next compete in the Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament hosted by Defiance (Ohio) College on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Ironwood Country Club in Wauseon, Ohio.  The single-round tournament is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
