Trine Finishes Third in First MIAA Event of the Season

BATTLE CREEK, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's golf team finished third of eight teams in the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association sponsored event of the season at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek, Mich.

Trine finished the 18-hole event with a team score of 294 strokes to place third overall.  Hope (Mich.) College recorded the lowest round at 286 strokes and Calvin (Mich.) College was second at 292 strokes.

Sophomore Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) had the lowest individual score for the Thunder with a two-under 70 and was tied for fourth overall.  Junior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) also posted a sub-par round with a 71 and also placed in the top-10 in a tie for sixth.

Junior Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman) carded the third-lowest score for the team at 75 strokes and cracked the top-20 in a tie for 18th place.  Fellow junior Grant Brettnacher (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) shot a score of 78 strokes to finish fourth on the team.

Sophomore Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) completed the roster of team qualifying scores for Trine with a round of 82 strokes.

The Thunder had one player compete as an individual in junior Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity) who fired a 76 and placed just outside the top-20 in a tie for 23rd place.

Trine is scheduled to host the second MIAA tournament with the MIAA Jamboree #2 on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Zollner Golf Course.  The round is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
