ANGOLA, IND. -- Junior Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity) shot a team-low 71 to lead the Trine University men's golf team at the second conference event of the season in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree #2 at Zollner Golf Course.
The Thunder ended the day in a tie for second overall in the team standings with a combined total of 296 strokes. Hope (Mich.) College captured the one-day tournament with a team total of 277 strokes and Calvin (Mich.) College tied Trine with a team score of 296 strokes.
LeSueur's round of 71 strokes was even par for the tournament and put him in a tie for third individually. Junior Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman) was second on the team at 74 strokes (+3) and fellow junior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) was a shot back with a round of 75 strokes (+4). Junior Grant Brettnacher (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) and sophomore Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) rounded out the team eligible scores at 76 (+5) and 79 (+8) strokes, respectively.
Trine also had several players compete as individuals and was led by sophomore Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) with 73 strokes (+2) and placed in the top-10 in a tie for ninth overall. Senior Spencer Graf (Granger, Ind./Penn) followed with an 18-hole round of 79 strokes (+8) and freshman Jacob Black (Defiance, Ohio/Trinity) was next with a score of 81 strokes (+10).
Sophomore Jeffrey Uhls (Shelbyville, Ind./Shelbyville) also competed for Trine and recorded a score of 82 strokes (+11). Rounding out the Trine golfers was junior Austin Miller (Kokomo, Ind./Northwestern) who shot a 91 (+21).
Trine will travel to Marshall, Mich. for the third MIAA event on Thursday, Sept. 27. Albion (Mich.) College will serve as host with the tournament set to begin at 1 p.m.
