Thunder Finish Fourth in Final MIAA Jamboree

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.  --  All five members of the Trine University men's golf team shot rounds in the 70s which led to a fourth-place finish at the final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree event of the season hosted by Calvin (Mich.) College.

Trine posted an overall team score of 303 strokes to finish fourth of eight schools.  Hope (Mich.) College came in first with a team score of 285 strokes and was followed by host Calvin in second place with 294 strokes.  Kalamazoo (Mich.) College placed third with a team score of 296 strokes.

Sophomore Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) shot the low round of the day for the Thunder with a 72 and posted a top-10 finish in a tie for fifth overall.  Junior Grant Brettnacher (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) was second with a round of 76 strokes and junior Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman) finished one shot back with a 77 to finish third on the team.

The duo of junior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) and sophomore Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) tied to round out the team scoring with a pair of 78's. 

Also competing was junior Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity) who navigated his way around the course with a final score of 76 strokes and placed in a tie for 19th as an individual.

Trine is scheduled to host the Ken Venturi Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 6) in a final tune-up before the MIAA Championship.  The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Zollner Golf Course.
