Men's Golf Captures Rain-Shortened Venturi Invitational

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University men's golf team captured the annual Ken Venturi Invitational that was cut short due to inclement weather at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind.

The day's format varied from normal invitational play. Each school had three pairs that turned in a score. Holes one to six were played as a scramble, holes seven to 12 better ball and holes 13 to 18 alternate shot.  The event, however, was not completed in its entirety due to rain and thunderstorms in the area.

Of the holes completed, Trine came in as the top school with a combined team score of nine under par.  Lourdes (Ohio) was second at two under par and was followed by Trine "B" and Siena Heights University who both finished at one under par.  University of Indiana-Northwest completed the list of teams competing and finished at four over par before the event being halted.

Individually, the Trine duo of sophomores Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) and Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) came out as the top combination, finishing at four under par.

Trine will return to action and wrap-up the fall season with the two-day Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship which begins on Friday, Oct. 12.  The two-day event will be played at Kaufman Golf Course in Grand Rapids, Mich. with the first day of competition set to begin at 1 p.m.
