Thunder Finish Second at MSJ Spring Invitational

CENTERVILLE, OHIO  --  The Trine University men's golf team finished as runners-up at the Mount St. Joseph University Spring Invitational at Yankee Trace Country Club in Centerville, Ohio

Trine finished the two-day event with a team score of 615 strokes (305+310=615) to place second of 13 teams.  Earlham College was first in the final team standings with a total of 613 strokes (313+300=613).  Otterbein (Ohio) University finished in the top-three with a total of 616 strokes (313+303=616).

Sophomore Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) carded back-to-back rounds of 75 strokes to finish as the Trine's "low man" for the tournament with an overall score of 150 strokes and finished in fifth place among a field of 88 golfers. 

Juniors Grant Brettnacher (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) and Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity) were tied for second on the team with overall totals of 155 strokes each and both finished in a tie for 13th.  Brettnacher fired rounds of 79 and 76 strokes, while LeSueur carded the single-round low for the team of 74 strokes on Saturday and then followed with a round of 81 strokes for the final 18 holes.

Junior Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman) also finished in the top-20 and was a shot back of Brettnacher and LeSueur overall with a two-day total of 156 strokes after posting single rounds of 77 and 79 strokes.  His score was good enough to put him in a tie for 18th.

Junior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) rounded out the field for Trine and shot an event total of 162 strokes (82+80=162) which put him in a tie for 34th.

Trine is scheduled to compete in the one-day Lourdes Invitational on Thursday, Apr. 4 hosted by Lourdes (Ohio) University.  The tournament will be held at the Legacy Golf Club in Ottawa Lake, Mich. with the start time for the event scheduled for 10 a.m.
