Two Finish in Top-Five as Team Claims A.C. Eddy Invitational

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Two members of the Trine University men's golf team placed in the top-five as the Thunder captured the A.C. Eddy Invitational hosted at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind.

As a team, the Thunder posted a score of 296 strokes to place first of five teams.  Calvin (Mich.) College finished second with 299 strokes and Wayne State (Mich.) University was third with 306 strokes.

Individually, four out of the five golfers shot rounds in the 70's, led by sophomore Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) who finished one-under par with a single-round total of 70 strokes to place second overall.  Joining Ruge in the top-five was junior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) who placed in a tie for fourth place after carding a round of 73 strokes.

Junior Grant Brettnacher (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) shot a round of 75 strokes on the par 71 course layout to finish in a tie for 10th among the field.  Sophomore Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) posted a top-20 finish in a tie for 19th after firing a score of 78 strokes.

In addition, senior Spencer Graf (Granger, Ind./Penn) came in fifth on the team with a total of 80 strokes and tied for 25th overall.

Trine also had several other players compete in the event with the members of juniors Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman), Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity), sophomore Jeffery Uhls (Shelbyville, Ind./Shelbyville), freshmen Jacob Black (Defiance, Ohio/Trinity) and Thomas Stoner (Gosport, Ind./Owen Valley) forming a second team in the field.  The "B" team posted a combined score of 314 strokes and had two players record rounds in the 70's.

Knowlton and LeSueur both shot in the 70's with Knowlton carding a 74 to place in a tie for seventh and LeSueur finished with 77 strokes to place in a tie for 13th.  

Uhls was third among the group with 80 strokes and Black followed with an 18-hole total of 83 strokes.  Stoner rounded out the quintet with a score of 108 strokes.

Also competing as individuals were junior varsity members in freshmen John Doyle (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Churchill), Griffin Cencer (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central), Keagan Dwyer (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater), Bryce Cunningham (Kokomo, Ind./Northwestern) and Justin Glessner (Shelbyville, Ind./Shelbyville).

Doyle finished with the lowest score among the five with 84 strokes.  Cencer and Dwyer followed with scores of 86 and 87 strokes, respectively.  Cunningham and Glessner both finished a pair of strokes behind Dwyer with rounds of 89 strokes each.

Trine will hit the road to compete in the Calvin Invitational on Tuesday, Apr. 16 at Thornapple Point Golf Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.  The single-round tournament is set to begin at 1 p.m.
