GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's golf team captured its second straight event of the spring with a first-place showing at the Calvin (Mich.) College Knight Invitational at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.

As a team, the Thunder navigated the par-72 course layout with a combined score of 306 strokes to place first of eight teams.  Hope (Mich.) College and Kalamazoo (Mich.) College both finished with team scores of 307 strokes to place in a tie for second overall.

Junior Grant Brettnacher (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) posted the lowest individual round for the team and finished two over par with an 18-hole score of 74 strokes.  His score put him in a tie for third among the field.  Trine had two more players finish in the top-10 in sophomore Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) and junior Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity).  Ruge finished the round with 76 strokes and was eighth, while LeSueur finished one stroke back with a 77 and placed in a tie for ninth.

Juniors Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) and Nick Knowlton (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman) also tied each other with tournament totals of 79 strokes each and finished in a tie for 18th.

Also competing in the tournament was sophomore Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) who competed as an individual and fired a round of 82 strokes which put him in a tie for 30th.

Trine is scheduled to compete again tomorrow (Wednesday, Apr. 17 in the Gray Wolf Invitational hosted by Lourdes (Ohio) University that was rescheduled from earlier this spring.  The one-day event is slated to begin at 10 a.m. at the Legacy Golf Club in Ottawa Lake, Mich.
