Trine in Third Place After First MIAA Spring Qualifier

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's golf team currently sits in third place and is four strokes back of the leader after the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Qualifier that was held at Watermark Country Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Trine finished with an overall team score of 311 strokes to sit in third place among a field of four teams.  Kalamazoo (Mich.) College leads with a team score of 307 strokes and is followed by Hope (Mich.) College in second with 310 strokes.

Junior Grant Brettnacher (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) fired the lowest score of the day for Trine with a one-over 73 strokes and was the fourth-best total overall.  Sophomore Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) also posted a sub-80 round, navigating the course in 78 strokes and sits two spots back of Brettnacher in sixth place.

Junior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) also finished in the top-10 with a score of 79 strokes which was good enough to tie for seventh place.  Junior Joe LeSueur (Northfield Center, Ohio/Trinity) carded a round of 81 strokes to tie for 13th overall.

Junior Nick Knowlton (Brdigman, Mich./Bridgman) rounded out the Thunder competitors and recorded a score of 85 strokes to sit in a tie for 17th place.

Trine will compete in the second MIAA Qualifier event next Friday, Apr. 26 at Wuskowhan Country Club in West Olive, Mich.  The round is set to start at 1 p.m.
