Men's Golf Finishes Second at Home Invitational

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Sophomore Mitch Lowney (Fenton, Mich./Clarkston Everest) finished as the individual co-champion and helped lead the Trine University men's golf team to a runner-up finish at the Trine Invitational hosted at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind.

The Thunder finished a stroke behind Calvin (Mich.) University for second place with a total of 297 strokes.  The Knights posted a team score of 296 strokes to take the team trophy.  Adrian (Mich.) College finished third with a team score of 317 strokes.

Lowney led a large contingent of Thunder players with a score of 71 strokes and tied Calvin's Sam Holland for medalist honors.  Senior Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) was second on the team, and tied for third overall, with a score of 73 strokes and was followed by fellow senior Jeffrey Uhls (Shelbyville, Ind./Shelbyville) who fired an 18-hole total of 76 strokes and tied for eighth overall to round out the top-10 individual efforts for Trine.

Senior Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) navigated the par-17, 6,384-yard course layout in 77 strokes which tied for the 13th lowest mark of the day.  Senior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) completed the list of team eligible scores with a round of 78 strokes and was tied for 15th among the field.

Trine is scheduled to conclude the fall season at the Calvin Invitational on Monday, Oct. 5 at Watermark Country Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.  The single-round tournament is set to begin at 1 p.m.
