Trine Men's Golf Wins Again

HOLLAND, MICH.  --  Freshman Mark Civanich (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and senior Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) both shot sub-par rounds to help lead the Trine University men's golf team to its third consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association event of the spring at the Hope (Mich.) College Invitational.

Civanich and Coeto both shot a two-under 34 strokes for the first nine holes.  Civanich then followed with a 35 on the back nine to end the one-day tournament with an overall score of 69 strokes (three under par).  Coeto shot an even par 36 for his final nine holes of the afternoon to finish with a tournament-total of 70 strokes (two under par).

Senior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) and sophomore Mitch Lowney (Fenton, Mich./Clarkston Everest) both fired rounds of 74 strokes to finish in a tie for third on the team and senior Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) was fifth with a round of 76 strokes.

Freshman Jack Brockie (Jackson, Mich./Hanover Horton) competed as an individual and also carded a round in the 70s with a score of 73 strokes.

As a team, Trine finished with an overall team score of 287 strokes.  Host school Hope was second with a team score of 300 strokes and Calvin (Mich.) University was third at 301 strokes.

Trine is scheduled to return to the course tomorrow (Tuesday, Apr. 6) with the one-day Albion (Mich.) College Invitational at Duck Lake Country Club in Albion, Mich.  The round is set to begin at 1 p.m.
