Trine Men's Golf Wins Kalamazoo Spring Invitational

KALAMAZOO, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's golf team posted another team victory this spring with a win at the Kalamazoo (Mich.) College Invitational hosted at the Kalamazoo Country Club in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Thunder ended the day with a tournament total of 296 strokes to place first of eight teams.  Calvin (Mich.) University was second with 298 strokes and Hope (Mich.) College was third at 302 strokes.

All five players making up the team eligible scores fired rounds in the 70s, led by senior Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) who shot a single-round total of 73 strokes and placed in a tie for second overall.

The duo of sophomore Mitch Lowney (Fenton, Mich./Clarkston Everest) and freshman Mark Civanich (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) both finished in the top-five in a tie for fourth place after carding rounds of 74 strokes each.

Freshman Jack Brockie (Jackson, Mich./Hanover Horton) had the fourth lowest score for the team and finished in the top-10 with a round of 75 strokes which was good enough to put him in a tie for sixth.  Senior Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) was fifth on the team with a round of 79 strokes and tied for 14th place.

Trine had one player compete as an individual in sophomore Mitch Blank (Hillsdale, Mich./Hillsdale) who navigated the course in 87 strokes.

The men's golf team will wrap-up the season with its final event of the year on Saturday, Apr. 24 at the Alma (Mich.) College Invitational.  The single-round tournament is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Pohlcat Golf Club in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
