Men's Golf Completes Day One of the MIAA Fall Championships

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team completed day one of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Fall Championship at Pohlcat Golf Course on Friday and is in fourth place after 18 holes.

Trine finished round one with a team score of 317. Hope College and Calvin University are tied for the team lead at an even 300.

After five of six rounds, Trine is averaging a score of 309.40 and is in third place. The Thunder need to stay above fifth in tomorrow's round in order to qualify for the spring championship event to earn an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Championships. Trine is eight strokes ahead of fourth place Kalamazoo College and 13 up on fifth-place Adrian College.

Mitch Lowney [Fenton, Mich. / Clarkston Everest] had the lowest team score for Trine with a 78. He is currently on the outside looking in on receiving an All-Conference honor, and needs to pick up three strokes on the current 12th place placeholder.

Jack Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] and Mark Civanich [Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso] tied with rounds of 79. Civanich is currently in line to be named All-Conference, but is on the fringe of being a First Team nominee.

Brogan Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] and Charlie Eriksen [Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Cranbrook Kingswood] tied for the final scoring member with 81s.

Individual Carter Rang [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Concordia Lutheran] laid down the lowest round of any Thunder athlete with a 77.

The fall season concludes tomorrow for the men's golf team in day two of the MIAA Fall Championship. Tee time is scheduled for 10 am.
