Thunder Conquer Competition at Home on Saturday

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's golf team hosted the AC Eddy Invitational on Saturday afternoon and the Thunder battled the brutal cold as well as the competition and came out on top on their home turf, Zollner Golf Course.

Trine finished the event with a team score of 292, finishing just in front of Adrian College at 298 and Hope College with a 301. Mitch Lowney [Fenton, Mich. / Clarkston Everest] was an individual medalist, tying with Jacob Siebenga from Calvin University at an even-par 71.

Lowney was the only student-athlete to go under on the par-4 holes and had four total birdies, including three on the front nine. Brogan Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] was just behind with a 72. The freshman birdied holes 3, 15 and 18 to sit in a tie for third at 1-over.

Jack Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] tied for seventh in an up-and-down day that resulted in a 3-over 74. He counteracted two double-bogeys with four birdies on the day. Mark Civanich [Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso] tied for 13th on the day at 4-over 75 and Charlie Eriksen [Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Cranbrook Kingswood] finished in 47th with an 81 to round out scoring members for the Thunder.

Head coach Noah Warren entered 32 names into the team's final home event of the 2022 campaign, and a few of them finished with notable individual scores as well. Ryan Gienger [Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble] notched a 73 on the home course and tied for fifth overall. Mitch Blank [Hillsdale, Mich. / Hillsdale] and Brian Behrens [Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville] were tied for 13th by firing 75's. Justin Glessner [Shelbyville, Ind. / Shelbyville] wrapped up action tied for 20th in the field of 85 by shooting a 76.

The men's and women's golf teams hit the links again on Monday, April 11 in the Trine/Albion Cup at Binder Park Golf Course in Battle Creek, Michigan. It will be the final preparations before next weekend's automatic qualifier for the NCAA DIII National Championship event.
