FREELAND, Mich. – Mitch Lowney [Fenton, Mich. / Clarkston Everest] of the Trine University men's golf team has been awarded the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week following his performance at the AC Eddy Invitational.
Lowney was an individual medalist at the team's home course, Zollner Golf Course, and helped the Thunder to a team victory as well heading into this weekend's NCAA Tournament Automatic Qualifying event. The junior went even-par 71 while battling both other competitors and the elements on a crisp Saturday afternoon. Lowney was the only student-athlete to go under on the par-4 holes and had four total birdies, including three on the front nine.
Trine has one last tune-up before the AQ, the Trine/Albion Cup on Monday, April 11 at Binder Park Golf Course.
