Men's Golf Second After 18 Holes in the NCAA AQ

WEST OLIVE, Mich. – After the first round of the NCAA Automatic Qualifier, the Trine University men's golf team is in second place with a team score of 315 at the Wuskowhan Players Club.

The Thunder are competing against three fellow Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) teams, including Hope College, Calvin University and Adrian College. The Flying Dutch have the lead through 18 holes after a very impressive 296 on Saturday.

Mark Civanich [Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso] is tied for fourth after a team-low 76. The sophomore hit for birdie on the par-5 10th hole and was 2-over on the back.

Sophomore Jack Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] hit a 77 on Saturday and sits alone in seventh place. The elder Brockie had a birdie on a par-5 as well, his coming on the 18th.

The junior pair of Mitch Lowney [Fenton, Mich. / Clarkston Everest] and Mitch Blank [Hillsdale, Mich. / Hillsdale] both shot 81 and are tied for 11th at the event. Lowney's day was highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 13th and Blank shot 10 pars, the second-most for Trine.

Freshman Brogan Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] birdied the fifth hole, a par-4, but finished in a tie for 15th after 18 holes at 83.

Round two will take place at Stonewater Country Club in Caledonia, Michigan on Monday, April 18.
