Trine Closes Gap to Hope with Team Win in AQ #2

CALEDONIA, Mich. – In the second Automatic Qualifier for the NCAA DIII Men's Golf Championship, the Trine University men's golf team had the lowest score of the day with a 297.

The Thunder defeated second-place Hope College on Tuesday by seven strokes and sit 12 strokes back heading into the final day of the event.

Trine had four players in the top six, led by Mark Civanich [Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso] at 2-over 73. The sophomore birdied holes 3, 5 and 18 on the day and was even-par on the front nine.

Jack Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] and Brogan Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] tied for third with 3-over 74's. Jack Brockie birdied two of the three par-5 holes and Brogan Brockie notched back-to-back birdies on holes 8 and 9 to go even on the front.

Mitch Lowney [Fenton, Mich. / Clarkston Everest] was sixth overall with a 5-over 76, highlighted by birdies on the par-4 11th and 15th holes.

Mitch Blank [Hillsdale, Mich. / Hillsdale] fired an 83 to round out Thunder student-athletes.

Wednesday, April 20 marks the conclusion of the Automatic Qualifier with another round at Stonewater Country Club beginning at 10 am.
