Men's Golf Finishes Runners-Up at Automatic Qualifier

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team wrapped up play in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) NCAA Automatic Qualifier on Wednesday afternoon.

The Thunder came in second place in the final of three rounds at Stonewater Country Club and second overall in the Automatic Qualifier. Trine held a team score of 313 in round three, behind Calvin University at 308.

Hope College gained the spot in the NCAA DIII National Championships with a three-day total of 915, with Trine just behind at 925.

Mitch Lowney [Fenton, Mich. / Clarkston Everest] was the round three individual medalist with an even-par 71. The junior had two birdies on the front as well as the back, and finished each side of the course by going one-under-par.

Mark Civanich [Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso] had the next lowest Thunder score at 78. He overcame a rough front nine with a birdie on the par-4 15th hole. Brogan Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] recorded birdies on holes 10 and 13 en route to an 80 on the course Wednesday. Jack Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] finished at 84 in the third round with eight pars. Wrapping up the Trine lineup was Mitch Blank [Hillsdale, Mich. / Hillsdale] with a score of 90.

The Thunder await their postseason fate with the NCAA Men's Golf Press Release on Monday, May 2 to see if they can get to the NCAA National Championships as an at-large selection. In preparation for a potential bid, Trine will compete in the Steven Tyler Memorial on Monday, April 25, an event that was postponed due to weather earlier this season.
