Mark Civanich Medals at Irish Hills Invitational; Team Finishes Runners Up

TECUMSEH, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team concluded the two-day Irish Hills Invitational on Friday afternoon, with the team tallying a second-place finish and junior Mark Civanich clinching individual medalist honors.

Calvin University secured the team victory with a score of 594, including a 297 on day two. The Thunder scored 602 total for the 36-hole event at Tecumseh Golf Club.

Civanich scored a 1-over 73 on his way to the individual win at 142. His day was highlighted by an eagle on the third hole. His back nine included two birdies on holes 12 and 16 as he scored 1-under 35 after making the turn. The junior topped second place by four strokes.

Mitch Lowney carded the second-lowest Trine score at 147 (72-75). He tied for fifth-place on the player leaderboard and birdied the par-5 third hole. His day included a very consistent 14 pars.

Kyler Rod matched his round one score with another 78 (156 total) on Friday. The sophomore started his day strong with a birdie and had another on the par-3 15th hole. Rod tied for 17th overall. Charlie Eriksen was one stroke back of Rod at 157 (77-80). He did the same as Rod by starting his day under-par on hole one and recorded a back-nine birdie on hole 16. Carter Rang had three birdies on his way to a score of 161 (79-82).

Nick Coccaro tied for 13th overall at 155 (75-80) for the Trine B-team. Also competing for the Thunder were Carter Schnipke at 159 (81-78), Mitch Blank at 161 (79-82), Ryan Gienger at 165 (78-87) and Sean Hogan at 172 (86-86).

Trine men's golf will compete at home at Zollner Golf Course for the Ken Venturi Invitational next week. The Thunder tee off again on Tuesday, September 20 beginning at 1 pm.
