Schnipke Receives Medalist Honors at MIAA Jamboree #1

WEST OLIVE, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team took the course for the first time in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play this season at Hope College's Wuskowhan Players Club. As a team, the Thunder placed second at MIAA Jamboree #1, but individually, freshman Carter Schnipke was medalist with an event-low score of 71.

Schnipke was the only player in the tournament to go even on the par-4 holes and had three strokes on the field at the end of play. He had four birdies Schnipke and the rest of the team had to embrace the elements on a gusty day in northern Michigan, where rains came in over the final few holes as well.

The Flying Dutch of Hope were team champions of the first jamboree event with a combined score of 302. Trine was close behind at 307 strokes.

Sophomore Nick Coccaro was the lowest scoring member on the team side at 74. He tied for second overall and went 1-under after making the turn. He hit for birdie on both par-3 holes on the back and went under par four times on the day.

One stroke back of Coccaro was the junior Mark Civanich. Civanich tied for fifth with his 75. He had back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 to highlight his round.

Sophomore Kyler Rod and senior Charlie Eriksen were tied for 18th and 21st, respectively to get the four team scores. Rod hit a 78 on Monday with a birdie on hole 12 and Eriksen went under par on the par-5 seventh hole on his way to a score of 80. Mitch Lowney fired an 83 on the afternoon.

On Saturday, October 1, the MIAA teams will meet at Pine River Country Club in Alma, Michigan for MIAA Jamboree #2.
