Civanich Leads Men's Golf to Third-Place Finish

ALMA, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team traveled to the Pine River Country Club for the second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree of the season hosted by Alma College. The Thunder placed third as a team during the event, with junior Mark Civanich leading the way, finishing in a tie for event-low score.

As a team Trine finished with 305 strokes, just one behind Adrian College who finished in second. Hope College led the way with 293 strokes.

Civanich finished the round in 70 strokes, one of just two student-athletes at the event to finish under par atop the leaderboard. He finished the round with four birdies, second most among event competitors. Two of those birdies came on par fives, helping him to finish under par on the long holes.

Sophomore Nick Coccaro posted the second lowest score for the team with 77 strokes in a tie for 16th overall. He posted three birdies on the round, all coming on par four holes. Freshman Carter Schnipke finished third on the team with 78 strokes in a tie for 20th. The final counting score for the team went to sophomore Kyler Rod who finished with 80 strokes in a tie for 27th overall. Senior Mitch Lowney finished with 81 strokes to round out the team scorecard.

Competing as an individual, senior Charlie Eriksen finished the event in third with a one over round of 72. He led the field with five birdies in the round and was one of just two student-athletes to finish even on the par fours of the course. Junior Carter Rang also competed as an individual and finished the round with 80 strokes.

The season will continue when the team travels to the Region 5 Preview event at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Day one of the two-day affair is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, October 3.
