Thunder Second After Four Conference Rounds

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team scored a second-place team finish for the second straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree event on Monday afternoon. The Thunder were runners-up in MIAA Jamboree #4 at Kalamazoo Country Club.

Hope College has won all four conference rounds and dominated the afternoon with a score of 292. Trine was second overall at 307.

Junior Mark Civanich, who was named MIAA Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, was tied for fourth on the playerboard with a scorecard of 73. He had the best score on par-4 holes in the event, going even par through the intermediates. Civanich now sits atop the league leaderboard after four of six conference rounds.

Senior Mitch Lowney tallied a bounce-back round with a 74 on Monday. Lowney also made his mark on par-4 holes and finished 1-over. The senior was just outside the top-5 in sixth.

Sophomore Kyler Rod and freshman Carter Schnipke tied for 15th after each of them shot an 80. Senior Charlie Eriksen was the final member of the Trine team at 84. He finished in a tie for 28th place on the leaderboard and notched three birdies. Individual scorer Nick Coccaro tied for 20th after shooting an 81 on Monday.

This weekend marks the final fall rounds of the season for the Trine men's golf team. The Thunder will compete in the MIAA Fall Championships at Kaufman Golf Course in Wyoming, Michigan. The two-day finale kicks off on Friday, October 14.
