Trine Takes Brit-Thunder Cup 62-17

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's golf team successfully defended the Brit-Thunder Cup on Tuesday afternoon at Zollner Golf Course. Trine and Albion College competed in their annual match play event, where the Thunder were victorious by winning 62 holes to the Britons' 17. All eight scoring members of the men's team won their individual matchups.

In pairing one, Mark Civanich blanked his opponent 12-0 to get the team out to an early lead. He scored points on holes 5-12 for the team. His playing partner Mitch Lowney had a wide margin of victory as well, 10-1. The senior won seven of the nine holes on the back nine.

Carter Schnipke took holes 1-3 to spark his round and pulled away to a 7-2 win. Charlie Eriksen competed in the closest match of the day, winning 4-3. Carter Rang and Ryan Gienger tallied equal scores of 7-4 to pick up wins in pairs five and six.

To finish off the day on a high note, Mitch Blank and Kyler Rod each had sizable wins in the final group. Blank won his battle 8-1, while Rod defeated his opponent 7-2.

Trine competes this weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Normal, Illinois. Tee time on Friday, April 7 will begin at 12:30 p.m.
