Men's Golf Finishes First Day of Illinois Wesleyan Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – The Trine University men's golf team finished the first day of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational and are currently sitting in tie for 14th out of the 37 assembled teams. The 18 holes of the day were played at the Ironwood Golf Course.

Junior Mark Civanich led the way for the team on the day posting a low score of 75 strokes. He is currently tied for 18th individually at the event. After starting the day on the eighth hole and recording five bogies over the first nine holes, he turned it around in the second nine. He finished the day with nine holes at or below par, including two birdies.

Freshman Carter Schnipke and junior Carter Rang finished tied for second on the lineup, both posting scores of 77 strokes. They are both currently tied for 53rd in the event. Schnipke had an up and down round becoming one of two members of the team to record three birdies in the 18 holes but also finishing with seven holes over par. Rang was slightly steadier with 12 pars and two birdies offsetting just four holes over par.

Posting the final counting score for the team was senior Mitch Lowney who finished the day with 78 strokes and in a tie for 74th as an individual. He was the other member of the team to come up with three birdies including on holes six, 13 and 17. Classmate Charlie Eriksen was the fifth member of the team and finished with 79 strokes. He was the lone member of the team to record an eagle on the day finishing the back nine with an eagle and a birdie.

Sophomore Kyler Rod competed as an individual and also posted a score of 78 for the day.

The team will look to make a move tomorrow, Saturday, April 8 when they continue competition at the event. The second round will change sites and be played at Ironwood Golf Course. The shotgun start is set for 9 a.m.
