Men's Golf Tied for Fifth at Lou Collins Memorial

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Senior Mark Civanich led the Trine University men's golf team with a low round during the opening day of the Lou Collins Memorial Tournament hosted by The University of Olivet at the Bedford Valley Country Club.

The Thunder are in a tie for fifth after the first round of the event after turning in a team tally of 309 strokes. Fellow Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) member Calvin University leads with a score of 298 strokes with Ohio Northern University in second with 304 strokes.

Civanich is tied for ninth individually. He posted a score of 75 to finish the day three over par. He posted par or better on 14 holes including a pair of birdies.

The next three scores for the team finished one stroke apart each. Sophomore Carter Schnipke led the group of three with 77 strokes, followed by junior Wade Shafer with 78 and senior Charlie Eriksen with 79. Shafer and Eriksen both finished with a pair of birdies while Schnipke had one.

Senior Joe Hawk finished with 83 strokes and junior Colin Crumrine, who competed as an individual, rounded out the delegation with 84. Hawk posted a pair of birdies during his round.

Round two of the event is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, September 2. The Thunder will look to make up ground with a strong performance.
