Men's Golf Conquers the Field at Irish Hills Invitational

TECUMSEH, Mich. – After beating every team in the field by at least 13 strokes on Saturday, the Trine University men's golf team was able to win the Irish Hills Invitational on Saturday. The Thunder shot 292 as a team, with the next best squad firing a 305. In total, Trine won the 36-hole event with a combined 595 (303-292), 15 strokes ahead of Calvin University.

For the second straight event, senior Mark Civanich was the individual medalist. He went 2-under 70 in round two and finished with a total score of 144 (74-70). His score was three strokes better than anyone else in the field.

Sophomores Wade Shafer and Asher Caldwell were tied for third on the leaderboard at 150. Both players had matching scorecards of 76 on day one and 74 on day two.

The final scoring member for the Trine team was sophomore Carter Schnipke, who tied for 12th. Schnipke took four strokes off his day one score at 152 (78-74). Senior Charlie Eriksen completed the scoring team for the Thunder with a final tally of 154 (77-77). He tied for 22nd overall.

Junior Kyler Rod and senior Joe Hawk led the B-team with scores of 156 (81-75) and 158 (82-76). Rod tied for 25th and Hawk 31st in the event.

Trine will open up Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) action in their next event at Cascades Golf Course, MIAA Jamboree #1, on September 19.
