Trine Ascends the Leaderboard on Day Two of the Region V Preview

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Trine University men's golf team had a sub-300 second round of the Region V Preview at the Warren Golf Course on the University of Notre Dame Tuesday to finish third as a team. The Thunder moved up three spots from their score on Monday and passed Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Hope College in the process.

The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology dominated the event with a two-day score of 585 (295-290). Otterbein University was in second place at 602 (300-302) with Trine in third at 611 (312-299). The Thunder had the second-lowest team score on Tuesday behind only the champion Fightin' Engineers of RHIT.

Mark Civanich was one of three Trine student-athletes to score a finish inside the top-10 after tying for fourth. Civanich totaled a 149 (75-74) with four birdies on Tuesday. He would go even on the back nine.

Charlie Eriksen and Kyler Rod (scored as an individual) were tied for sixth on the playerboard with a score of 151. Eriksen (74-77) had another consistent round with 10 pars and added a pair of birdies on par-5 holes. Rod (76-75) had two birdies on his scorecard as well.

Carter Schnipke was on fire on the back nine en route to scoring a 154 (81-73). Schnipke hit for birdie on four holes on the back nine, including consecutive trips under-par on holes 16 and 17. The sophomore had the lowest score of all Thunder student-athletes on Tuesday to help him enter a tie for 16th.

Asher Caldwell would do the same as Schnipke on holes 16 and 17 as he tied for 26th at 157 (82-75). He added an additional birdie on the front to give him three on his scorecard. Colin Crumrine tied for 46th at 162 (83-79). The junior had three birdies on Tuesday as well.

The Region V Preview concludes the fall season for the men's golf team as they look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in the spring.
