Thunder Sixth at Illinois Wesleyan Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – The Trine University men's golf team finished day one at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in sixth position after posting 302 strokes, 14 over par, as a team.

Mark Civanich led the way for the Thunder scoring even par for the day and finishing tied for sixth as an individual. The senior started his day with eleven-straight pars, before posting a bogey on hole number one, his 12th hole of the day. He responded with two straight birdies. His only other bogey of the day came on hole five.

Asher Caldwell was second on the team, going two over par for the day. He posted birdies on both 17 and two finish with the 74 and in a tie for 14th as an individual. Charlie Eriksen came in third on the team, going four over for the day. He had birdies on seven and eleven during the round.

Carter Schnipke rounded out the scoring for the Thunder, finishing with an 80, eight over par. Wade Shafer was the last member of the lineup for the team and finished with an 86. Colin Crumrine competed as an individual and finished with an 82 for the day.

The hosts from Illinois Wesleyan hold a commanding lead on the field, a full eleven strokes up on second place after four of their golfers finished under par on the day. The Thunder are just eight strokes out of second however, with Gustavus Adolphus currently sitting at six over par.

Trine will look to gain ground tomorrow, Saturday, April 6 when they take to their second course for day two of the event. They are set to tee off at 10 a.m. ET at the Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
