DALLAS, Texas -- Trine head men's hockey coach Alex Todd helped lead Team USA to the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament title.
Todd served as an assistant coach for Team USA, which went a perfect 4-0-0 to lock up its second-consecutive tournament title. Team USA dominated its opposition, outscoring its opponents 31-6 in the four games. The team capped off the championship performance with a 9-2 victory over Germany Saturday night. In addition to Team USA, the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament included teams from Slovakia, Switzerland, Germany and Czech Republic.
Team USA's roster was made up of 20 players selected from the USA Hockey Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp. In addition to Todd, the coaching staff included head coach Cory Laylin (Hamline University) and assistants Matt Millar (Dubuque Fighting Saints) and Scott Paluch (USA Hockey).
Todd was named the first head coach of Trine's men's Division III hockey program this summer. His coaching pedigree includes head coaching experience at Castleton State University, as well as work as an assistant with University of Nebraska at Omaha and Utica College.
Trine University has begun construction on the 46,200-square-foot, 700-seat Thunder Ice Arena, which will serve as the home for the school's hockey programs. The new arena also will host club and youth hockey programs for the Steuben County YMCA and local school corporations, and will be open to the public for skating at designated times.
The project recently received $2.8 million in funding from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation as part of Indiana's Regional Cities initiative. The arena is expected to be completed in the fall of 2017.
