Thunder Unable to Overcome Two-Goal Deficit at Adrian

ADRIAN, MICH. – Thunder make it close but come away with a non-conference loss to Adrian College by the score of 3-1.

For the third time this season the Trine faced off with the nationally ranked Adrian College men's NCAA hockey team in an evening contest beginning at 7 p.m. and once again the Bulldogs were the first to put a goal on the board. It would be the lone goal of the first period and Adrian would take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Thunder would tally their lone goal of the contest in the second period. In the 12th minute, freshman forward Alex Johanson (Skokie, Ill.) would scoop the puck ahead to forward Max DiCicco (Howell, Mich.) who would work his way into the offensive zone. Freshman forward Corey Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) would follow his line-mate into the across the blue-line and was in position to capitalize on the DiCicco's pass for the backdoor goal. The goal is Robertson's first of the season and would pull the Thunder within one of the Bulldogs, who had scored a shorthanded goal earlier in the period, and they would hold onto that deficit heading into the second intermission.

In the third period the Thunder would see two chances to tie the game during a power-play but were unable to capitalize. With just over a minute left, and Trine looking for an opportunity to pull their goaltender, the Bulldogs would put the game away with their third goal of the contest. The Thunder would add an extra skater following the goal but were once again unable to capitalize and the game would end as a 3-1 loss.

Sophomore Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) played the full game for the Thunder in net, and despite the loss was a highlight for the team. He kept Trine in the game, turning away 42 shots during the contest.

The Thunder return to conference play on Friday, Dec. 1 with a home contest against Northland College set to start at 7 p.m.
