MEQUON, WIS. – The Trine men's NCAA hockey team hit the road for a conference contest against Concordia University (Wis.) and were defeated by the score of 3-1.
The Thunder found themselves facing a two-goal deficit at the start of the third period. In just the fourth minute of the final stanza, the Thunder found the back of the net for the first time in the contest. Senior forward Ryan Murray (Farmington Hills, Mich.) scored the goal, his second of the season, to pull within one of Concordia. Defensemen sophomore Henry Hearon (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Blake Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) added assists on the goal.
The comeback would be cut short when the Falcon's Jon Brumwell scored an unassisted goal in the 11th minute of the period to give the team the 3-1 lead. The Thunder were unable to effectively pull their goalie for the extra attacker in the final minutes of the game as they found themselves killing off a pair of penalties.
Trine finished the game with 31 shots just three less than Concordia.
Sophomore Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) saw the time in net in the game and finished the contest with 31 saves.
The Thunder will look to bounce back from the loss tomorrow, Saturday, January 20 as they continue their road trip with a stop at NCHA opponent Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m.
