Men's Hockey Scores Win Over Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Two power-play goals got the offense rolling for the Trine University men's hockey team as they went on to defeat host Chatham University by the score of 4-0.

The Thunder started their scoring in the final minute of the first period, by taking advantage of a Cougar penalty. Freshman forward Brent Jones (Brighton, Mich.) Scored the goal, his first of the season. Both sophomore Alex Johanson (Skokie, Ill.) and freshman Garrett Hallford (McKinney, Texas) added assists on the goal.

The team added to their lead with the second of their power-play goals in the seventh minute of the second stanza. This time the goal came from sophomore Michael Meisenbacher (Basking Ridge, N.J.), who tallied his first of the season. Hallford added his second assist of the contest while sophomore Henry Hearon (Chicago, Ill.) added his first.

Trine made extended their lead again in the tenth minute of the period. The even strength goal was scored by freshman Brandon Krumpschmid (Grand Rapids, Mich.), his second of the season. Meisenbacher along with freshman Austin Stauffer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) added assists on the goal.

The lone goal if the third period came in the 19th minute of the final stanza, when sophomore Max DiCicco (Howell, Mich.) iced the game with an empty net tally. Sophomore Carmine Taffo (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Meisenbacher added assist on the goal which gave the Thunder their final 4-0 lead.

Junior Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) picked up the shutout victory in net for Trine. He tallied 18 saves in the contest.

Trine improves to 3-8-1 overall following the win. They will take the ice again when they host SUNY Canton on Saturday, Dec. 29 for a 7 p.m. contest.
