Five Skaters Score as Thunder Defeat Spartans 5-1

AURORA, Ill. – The Trine University men's hockey team came up with a big Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) win over host Aurora University. Five different Thunder skaters tallied goals as the team came away with a 5-1 victory.

Sophomore Michael Meisenbacher (Basking Ridge, N.J.) started the scoring for Trine tallying his third goal of the season in the 16th minute of the contest. Junior Dante Suffredini and sophomore Corey Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) added assists on the goal. Trine took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Trine added to their lead in the 12th minute of the second period. Freshman TJ Delaney (St. Louis, Mo.) tallied the goal which would end up being the game-winner. Fellow freshman Brandon Krumpschmid (Grand Rapids, Mich.) added the assist on the play.

Just over a minute later the Thunder added to the lead again going up 3-0 in the contest. Freshman forward Brent Jones (Brighton, Mich.) scored the goal his second of the season. Sophomore defenseman Josh Hinderliter (Wyandotte, Mich.) and junior goalie Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) added assists on the play.

The Thunder added two more goals in the third to take their largest lead of 5-0 lead in the eighth minute. They held that lead for just under 30 seconds before the Spartans broke up the shutout with a power-play goal to finish the game with the final score of 5-1.

In addition to his first assist of the season, Young finished the game 21 saves and another win for the season.

The Thunder improve to 7-8-1 overall and 3-6 in the NCHA following the victory. They will continue conference play tomorrow, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. CST.
