Prappas Nabs NCHA Player of the Week Honors

DULUTH, Minn. -- Freshman forward Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) was named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Offensive Player of the Week following a big series against nationally-ranked St. Norbert College.

It is the first time this season that a Thunder student-athlete has earned the award and also the first time for Prappas.

Prappas started the weekend on Friday by picking up two goals in the first period. The first brought Trine into a tie with the visiting Green Knights and the second gave them a 2-1 lead. The Thunder would go on to lead the contest by 3-1, but a last-second goal in the second tied the contest at three and St. Norbert would go on to win 5-3.

On Saturday the team entered the final two minutes of regulation in a scoreless tie, but Prappas finished off a power-play attempt for the Thunder by deflecting the puck into the net for a goal. It would end up being the game-winner for the Thunder as an empty-netter put the game out of reach at 2-0.

The win is the first for Trine over a nationally-ranked opponent, St. Norbert was ranked tenth in the country at the time by the USCHO.

The Thunder improved to 4-2 following the weekend and will continue their season when they travel to face the College of St. Scholastica in another NCHA doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CST on Friday, Nov. 22.
