Men's Hockey Drops Nail-biter to Nationally-Ranked Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Trine University men's hockey team turned in three strong periods of play against nationally-fifth-ranked Augsburg University, before falling in overtime by the score of 1-0.

Both teams played a completely clean first period as neither team allowed a goal or took a penalty.

A pair of penalties coming at the same time were the lone addition to the scoresheet in the second period, with each team failing to score again.

Just over two minutes into the third period the Thunder were gfted with the first powerplay opportunity of the contest, but the Auggie defense was up to the task and Trine remained scoreless. The teams ended the third period as they started the game tied 0-0.

The score finally changed just five seconds short of two minutes into the overtime period, when Augsburg finally cracked the back of the net to take the victory 1-0.

Senior Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) played a spectacular game in net despite allowing the lone goal of the contest. He finished the game with 36 saves.

The Thunder fall to 6-4 overall following the loss. They will take the ice next when they travel to face nationally-ranked Adrian College in a non-conference contest. The game is scheduled to start at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31.
