Men's Hockey Ends in 2-2 Draw with Visiting Falcons

ANGOLA, Ind. -- In a game defined by penalties the Trine University men's hockey team ended the contest in a 2-2 tie with visiting Concordia University Wisconsin after holding a lead in the third period. All four goals in the contest came on power-play opportunities.

The Falcons struck first in the game scoring in the sixth minute of the first period to take the early 1-0 lead.

After killing off a five-minute penalty, the Thunder responded with a goal of their own in the 15th minute of the period. The goal was a textbook power-play attempt with the team working the puck through the point before freshman Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) deflected the puck into the net. Sophomore Garrett Hallford (McKinney, Texas) and senior Henry Hearon (Chicago, Ill.) added assists on the goal.

The 1-1 tie would last into the first intermission.

Trine took the lead in the seventh minute of the second period. Prappas started the play with a pass across the offensive zone to a waiting Hallford who quickly forwarded it in close to the goal. Junior Corey Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) fired a shot from in close that was saved, but he quickly collected his own rebound and recorded the goal.

The team took the 2-1 lead into the second intermission and through the first fifteen minutes of the third period. In the sixteenth minute, the Falcons tied the game at two with their second goal of the game. A quick overtime period later and the game would end in the tie.

The Thunder end the night with a 7-7-1 overall record and a 5-4-1 record in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. They will continue their season when they travel to face Finlandia University on Friday, January 17. The game is set to start at 7:15 p.m.
